The tourist drove to Vorkuta, but saw an ice city in front of him. Furnished apartments can be picked up free of charge

The traveler heard a lot about the cities of the Far North. He decided to choose Vorkuta for inspection. But when he arrived, he saw a real ice city in front of him. High-rise buildings near the center were completely empty here. The guy went into one of them and realized that apartments with furniture and things can be picked up here for free.

In Soviet times, Vorkuta developed thanks to mining settlements. By the 1970s, 100,000 people lived here. Universities, libraries, plants and factories – life was in full swing in the northern city.

Everything changed in one moment. With the collapse of the USSR, the mines began to close. The infrastructure gradually fell into disrepair. People started to leave.

The traveler saw this picture in front of him. According to various sources, 70% of the residents have left Vorkuta in recent years. Entire neighborhoods are abandoned. The heating was turned off in the houses, but the water in many did not turn off.

There is no shortage of housing in the city. Within the city, more than 14,000 apartments are empty. A random tourist entered one of these. All things of the former owners seemed to remain in their places. Even the bathroom is leaking water – no one just took care to turn off the whole house from the supply:

Former owners of abandoned apartments do not even think about selling this property. Housing here is already free of charge.

On the outskirts of the city, a passer-by noticed a hidden hatch. A rickety staircase led him to a 150-year-old object
