Despite governmental prohibitions against destroying the barn in order to construct a dwelling, the farmer outwitted the law enforcers by constructing his home inside the existing structure.

A Swiss farmer who lived in a small town decided to construct a home for himself out of the decaying remains of an abandoned barn. Local officials, however, denied its destruction because they saw historical value in the building.

As things stalled out, the guy suddenly had a bright idea. The local authorities could do nothing to stop him from constructing his new home inside the barn.

This barn served as a cow shelter and hay storage for a farming family for over a century. Many years passed with the abandoned barn sitting empty as regulations changed and the farmer constructed a new structure.

The authorities denied the man’s request to tear it down and replace it with a home since the barn provides a historic context for the area.

The architects studied the building extensively and then developed a strategy for improving it. Authorities approved the project on the condition that the barn’s exterior wouldn’t be altered in any way; thus, a whole new building had to be created inside.
